Ask RiotACT: Parking fine

Ask RiotACT

Hi Rioters.

Has anyone received a parking infringement from the mobile licence plate recognition camera?

We parked in Braddon on a Sunday afternoon in a marked bay next to a construction site. During the week this area is fenced off with witches hats and tape so that no-one parks, but on the weekend these were not there and the street was full of cars. We parked not realising that the construction fencing had a no stopping sign.

Wondering whether I should look at challenging the infringement – thoughts?

What’s Your opinion?

I dont think you have much chance if there was an official sign there and you simply failed to notice it. But hey...send and email and see what happens!

I thought everyone going to Braddon this days has to ride their bike ...

He said "we parked not realising there was a no stopping sign" wouldn't this mean he parked where he was not allowed to?

Surely not possible if no signs

Yep. They have to have photo evidence of what you did wrong. Ask for that too

It costs nothing to challenge the fine and if you have a case you will probably win. Speaking from experience here.

No signs then no laws broken imo

Agreed. Absolutely dispute it, there's no harm in it, and those fines are expensive.

Always worth the email.
