Ask RiotACT: Petrol in Fyshwick

Ask RiotACT

Hi, Rioters,

My car is 15 years old and is in pretty good order. It takes 40 litres and when the gauge says half, I fill up to 20 litres exactly.

A month ago when the tank was half full, I had to put in 27 litres (I fill up fortnightly). Yesterday, when it was half empty, I had to put in 24 litres. This time I alerted the station, who said it could be a problem with my car. I said that next time, I will check with another petrol station. I went to Toyota Fyshwick immediately who said the problem could be with either the car or the petrol station and suggested I ask the petrol station when their tanks were last calibrated. I do hope this is a minor problem with my car as this station is quite convenient for me.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Yet another update to my post – you need to call the National Trade Measurement hotline on 1300-686-664. They don’t need your identity or details, but need the address of the petrol station and pump number, which will be on the receipt.

This is an update to my post. I used another petrol station and my half tank was exactly 20 litres. So there’s nothing wrong with my car. I have just now contacted Measurements Australia and they will follow it up! Sometimes perhaps the cheapest retailer isn’t always the best. Thanks Rodney for replying, and thanks Riot-ACT for putting up my post! 🙂
