Ask RiotACT

Hi Rioters.

This might be a silly question … but what app should I use to pay for parking in Canberra?

When I google it ‘Parkmobile’ comes up. Should I use this or are there other options available? I currently have an iPhone.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m not a big app user, so this is all very new to me! Are there any other tips for beginners?

Paybyphone is another one if you park in a Wilson such as the one on London Circuit behind the police station. It’s a better app I think than Parkmobile. I work in Barton and have noticed the guvvie car park there does not have app payment facilities – I think because it’s under the NCA. Would be useful as the machines take an age to issue a ticket.

I have been using ParkMobile app for a year or so, it is great but only for ACT Government parking meters. It won’t work in the Parliamentary Triangle (NCD controlled parking) or in car parks managed by Wilson (they have their own app).

Parkmobile is the right app. Many/most government owned pay parking areas have the green sticker with a meter number on it, you enter that number in the app and the fee comes off your Credit/Debit card.

The fee is processed by Parkmobile, not the App Store.

There is a Parkmobile surcharge of about 10% but for me it is usually $0.15 to avoid having to print out a ticket and take it back to my car.

The app requires your car’s rego number, and I haven’t had to change rego numbers (eg rental car) so I can not speak to the ease of that process.

I use the ParkMobile app a few times a week with no problems, parking in Tuggeranong car parks mostly. I don’t know of any other parking apps linked to ACT parking.
