Ask RiotACT

Hey guys, my niece underwent chemotherapy recently and we are looking to get her a wig.

Any recommendations? We thought of doing these soft hat things- apparently most ppl got it from amazon, but she was not too happy with the idea.

The wig should be customisable. What are your suggestions?

Thank-you!

We found HeadsUp at Kippax to be great.

Sue was very kind and really helpful.

Just checked a bit more. The shop is “Colleen’s” and their web site is:

Seems they do do wigs, but don’t know if they are customisable.

Hi there,
Firstly I hope she recovers fully from her treatment.
In terms of wigs, my sister went through chemo and we went to Innovative wigs in Braddon, Canberra. They did an amazing job. My sister really wanted the wig to match her exact her, so she was advised to bring in a photograph from which they recreated her hair perfectly! Very thankful to the kind staff. I would definitely recommend them- http://innovativewigscanberra.com.au/wigs Please read about it more here 🙂 Hope this helps

There’s a shop in Garran that seems to deal with support for breast cancer patients. I don’t know much about the shop as I’ve only seen it while passing by. They may not be able to help with wigs, but they may know someone who can.

I asked a friend who went through chemo a couple of years ago and she said there used to be a woman who ran a shop out of Canberra hospital and could also customise. She doesn’t think she’s there anymore though – possibly moved out to Fairbairn near the airport. Hope that helps 🙂
