Carpets are a major investment. To get the most out of your money and ensure your carpets look new and last longer, you need to treat them with care. That includes having them professionally cleaned when needed.

The reality is that no matter how often you vacuum, use a home carpet cleaner or spot clean, you can’t beat the professionals when it comes to removing dirt, grime, dust and allergens. Keeping your carpets clean helps your family breathe easier and can reduce some health problems.

The timing for cleaning your carpet depends on wear and tear but most professionals recommend it at least once every 12 to 18 months. If you have children, pets or suffer from severe allergies, it’s best to clean them more frequently. One thing is for sure: DIY carpet cleans are never as thorough as a professional cleaning by an expert who can advise on the best course of action for your needs.

In this article, we’ll outline the qualities to consider when choosing a carpet cleaner, and share where to find the best in Canberra.

What makes a great carpet cleaner?

Dozens of carpet-cleaning companies are operating in the market, but not all are equal. The challenge is to find experts who are committed to their craft and will work hard on a top-quality outcome.

It can be helpful to keep the following in mind when choosing a carpet cleaner:

  • Professional equipment. Professional carpet cleaners use specialist equipment, such as industrial-strength vacuums and steam cleaners. It may be beneficial to seek out cleaners who keep up with the latest industry innovations and carpet-care technology.
  • Expert methods. It’s important to understand how your carpet will be cleaned. Ask about the steps that will be taken, which might include pre-vacuuming, spot-stain treatment, shampooing, cleaning (steam or dry) and even deodorising.
  • Accurate expectations. Some stains can’t be removed even with the toughest professional clean. A great carpet cleaner will first assess the condition of your carpet, including any nasty stains, and be honest and upfront about what is possible. The pros always manage your expectations before they start the job, so everyone is clear.
  • Before-and-after photos. It’s a good sign if your carpet-cleaning candidates can show you before-and-after photos from previous jobs to give you an idea of their work standards. Often they have these on social media or their website.
  • Cost. The best carpet cleaners charge a fair price for their services. Their pricing should be clear and transparent. Make sure you understand what they will charge before they start work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a professional needed to clean my carpets?

Professionals have the equipment to deeply clean carpets, more so than your general household vacuum. Proper deep cleaning extends the life of your carpet.

What are the different types of carpet cleaning?

Steam cleaning (also known as hot-water extraction) is a deep-cleaning method that uses hot water and chemicals to release dirt and stains. Dry cleaning is another method that eliminates dirt with little to no moisture, allowing for immediate use afterwards. Ask your cleaner about which option may best suit your carpet and situation.

Can carpet cleaners remove stains?

Yes, as long as it hasn't set in too long. Stain removals can range from red wine to coffee or tea. It is best to act on a stain as soon as possible.

Are carpet-cleaning products safe for children and pets?

The carpet-cleaning products used in homes are safe for children and pets when completely dry. However, it is always a good idea to keep them away during cleaning. If you have any concerns, check the products with your carpet cleaner before engaging their services.

What is the best way to care for my carpet after it has been professionally cleaned?

Regular vacuuming is the best after-care for your carpet once it has been professionally cleaned. Ensure that you are vacuuming properly and not rushing the job. Your carpet cleaner should also recommend a time for your next professional clean.

this is good

They actually move furniture. That’d be SO good as I can’t.

We have used Ezi Dry Carpet cleaners a couple of times and they were fantastic. They moved the furniture that could be moved (this is a big one for us, as we find it difficult shifting furniture these days!), did a fantastic job, the carpet really was dry enough to walk on straight away, and they use non-toxic cleaning fluids. They were also the nicest of people. Can highly recommend them. https://ezidrycarpetcare.com.au/our-services

Thanks very much for you positive comment, Sara. I wish you and your Nicholas all the best with your new life in Perth.
Gift4mum Cleaning ACT provides professional carpet steam cleaning service in Canberra and Queenbeyan to make your carpet truly clean. Visit our website: https://www.greencleaningact.com.au/ for more information.

I have experienced some annual Carpet steam cleaning services and felt very happy with Gift4mum Cleaning ACT. The thing makes them differrent from some other I had used that they were able to steam carpet until the water extracted from carpet looks clear. My little son is asthmatic, so clean carpet is more important than just looks like new. Highly recommend them for similar tasks.

I agree with zilauh. It’s not necessarily a bad thing having good memories of party spillages. pain in the neck if you need a bond back I’ve used http://www.canberracarpetcleaning.com.au twice, and both times they’ve been very prompt and reliable.

canberralife4:21 pm 16 Dec 15

Have tried a few companies but found Drymaster to be the best. http://www.carpetcleaning.com.au/canberra They were recommended to me by a friend, very happy.

I don’t have anyone to recommend but I do have one to avoid.

Canberra Carpet Steam Cleaning!

Booked with this business for carpet clean well in advance (one week ago). Cancelled my booking in the last minute with very short notice (and rebooked with someone else) simply because I didn’t reply his sms immediately in the night (the job is original booked next day).

Come on, you got giving your customer a bit more time to response your message, especially in the night. If you have any questions and want your customer to answer, ask them early, not the last minute, especially I booked well in advance. Because of that I was screwed up so I have to find someone else to do the job in very urgent timeframe.

Please be aware, this business is not reliable at all. No trust at all. So called “confirmation of booking” does not exist. This business is $10 cheaper than others but you are at risk.

I’ve only recently moved to Canberra, but I’ve so far tried two carpet cleaning companies. One of them is http://www.actcarpetcleaners.com and the other one was http://icarpetcleaningcanberra.com.au. They were both as good as each other. Nothing compared to the carpet cleaners in Melbourne, cutting corners.

I have a 3 year old and she is quite messy, so the carpets always have all sorts of stains on them. To be honest both carpet cleaners were quite impressive and did a great job removing the stains. I would highly recommend both companies.

A friend of mine also recommended me these two carpet cleaners

http://www.cleanercarpetcanberra.com.au – ProChoice Carpet Cleaning
http://www.carpetcleaning.com.au – Drymaster Carpet Cleaning

they are on my list for the future. You might want to check them out too.

good luck with it all!

Really nice guy and easy to deal with.

Thanks to you all for your recommendations – really appreciated! Feel free to keep them coming as well.

I was looking at Carpets by Rex based on the previous post from a couple of years ago. Good to hear they are keeping up the good work.

Another vote for carpet cleaning by Rex. Truly have gone above and beyond. Worth every cent.

I’ll second Carpet Cleaning by Rex.
Every time we’ve used them they’ve been on time, polite and helpful as well as doing a great job.
I believe that they’re a small, local company and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Definitely Wizard Carpet Care.

We’ve used Stainbusters for years – and as recently as a couple of weeks ago – and have always been happy with the results and their reliability. They’ve never tried to penny pinch us either – for example even though our entrance foyer is quite large, they’ve never quibbled about including it as part of the hallway. Last time, even though we didn’t ask for the hallway to be done, they did the entrance as part of the lounge room. Little things like that make a lot of difference – and we’ve never had any complaints about the quality of work. Highly recommended.

Carpet Cleaning by Rex – prompt, professional and do a great job. Did such a good job last year I had them back recently, in September. Highly recommended.

We have used Morgans a few times. Happy with their work and their booking system etc.

I’ve used Electrodry a couple times in the past (admittedly, not recently), and always be very happy with the result.

Hi tiffwat, just wondering did you have any luck with your carpet cleaner? I am looking for one now and wondering the same thing (ie. which ones are good and more importantly which ones are NO good!)

Cheers

The only reviews I have heard have not been good. I have heard that sometimes (if you have a regular clean) they dont turn up and dont call.
Also, I have had personal experience with this (as I previously worked in Real Estate), I used them a couple of times and was not happy. Each time I used them I had to get them to return to rectify the job.

N.B I now do cleaning, feel free to email me chauntelle85@gmail.com

has anyone heard any reviews about ‘Bebrite’ cleaning and carpet services?

Hi all,
I am a cleaner and can offer end of lease, spring cleans, or regular (weekly, fortnightly or monthly cleans). I have many satisfied clients (references can be supplied upon request) as well as previous experience in Real Estate (property manager).

Servicing all ACT and surrounds.

Feel free to contact me to discuss your needs, arrange a quote or to book.
chauntelle85@gmail.com

Thanks! =)

You can try the Carpet Cleaning London services. Whit more than a decade of reliable carpet cleaning.

Don’t get bent over like I did by a cleaning service that advertises with happy similing kiddies of “5 rooms for $95”. When he turned up it was suddenly $160 because “you didn’t tell me you had light coloured carpet”! Of course as the booking was late in the only day I had off for 4 weeks and I had moved all the furniture out, I was over a barrel – but will NEVER use him again…

Call Tony at All Class
0418 242 012.

Reliable, friendly and do a great job. They have 2 or 3 vans.

Amanda Hugankis9:15 am 08 Nov 10

2nd Carpets by Rex. I’ve been using them for around 15 years and they are prompt, professional, priced competitively.

Try Peter at Budget carpet care 0412 087 427. I worked with him before he started his own business I know that he has done a large amount of training and has all the latest equipment.

VacToTheFuture9:07 am 08 Nov 10

Hercules are great, we use them every few months to clean our office and they do a top job.

Try Hercules, I think there’s only two vans in the group. They were recommended to me at the end of my last lease.

Felix the Cat5:19 am 08 Nov 10

Carpet Cleaning By Rex Pty Ltd 6292 8977. I have used them a couple of times and they do a good job.

troll-sniffer9:33 pm 07 Nov 10

There are lots of good ones out there, pot luck half the time. I know Morgan’s is recognised as one of the best, especially in stain removal, but of course they sub-contract to their drivers. However I had a mate work for them and they were given top-class training in what the various methods and products do to get rid of staining.

grumpyrhonda8:06 pm 07 Nov 10

Morgan’s Carpets do our lounge room and lounge suite every November for us. They do a good job. We are in the Gungahlin area.
