Henry Posch started Monaro Windows in 1988 and established the business’s reputation for quality, service and manufacturing their own quality assured products in their Queanbeyan factory. The business thrived, and in 2014 Henry’s son, Dan Posch, bought the business off his father and he continues to run a manufacturing plant at Queanbeyan, where they make their own products and employ 60-70 local staff.
Under Dan’s management, the business expanded to make security doors, provide a window replacement service, and manufacture unplasticised polyvinyl carbonate (uPVC) windows and doors. The window business is growing and is now supplying Canberra and the region with locally manufactured aluminium and uPVC double-glazed windows and doors.
“Monaro Windows has been around since 1988,” says Dan. “It was started by my dad, Henry, and he owned and operated it for a long time.
“In 2014, I purchased it off him after working in the business and helping him run it for a few years. I’ve looked to expand and grow the business since then.
“I’ve introduced a security door division; we make and install our own security doors. We already offered and sold third-party ones, but we came to the point where we were doing so many of them we decided to make them in-house, and make a better quality product.
“Our range is more comprehensive, with both aluminium and uPVC windows and doors, all of which we make here in our manufacturing plant rather than buying someone else’s product from interstate and just installing them.
“We’re a trusted local company that knows what we’re doing.
“We also have 60-70 local families that we’re able to support through employment at the factory, and fitting windows.”
Dan says his business provides both a replacement service for existing homes and double-glazing for new homes.
“We offer a replacement service for existing homes to replace single-glazed windows and doors with double-glazed products,” he says. “There are a number of options to consider when choosing windows, including frame types, different glass options, acoustic benefits and design styles. We try to educate customers and work with them to ensure they are getting the best product to achieve the results they are after.
“We provide a free measure and quote service because that is the best way to provide an accurate quote for our customers.”
Dan says often people are not aware of other issues that might impact their home’s energy efficiency, such as the seals on windows leaking heat or cold. A knowledgeable tradesperson should inspect the windows that are to be replaced to ensure all technical issues are addressed.
“It’s not an investment you’ll lose money on; double-glazing adds to the value of your home,” he says.
“It helps with thermal comfort and energy bills, ensuring a comfortable home for your family while saving you money. And there are lots of options available with double-glazing, such as tints, different ranges of obscured glass, and upgrading your double-glazing by including treated single-glazed glass, increasing your windows’ thermal efficiency even more.”
