Meet “Australia’s literary microphone mistress”. Times Literary Supplement.
Former presenter of ABC’s Radio National The Book Show, Ramona Koval, will speak about By the Book, a story about reading and living, and of the authors that have written themselves into her life: from Oliver Sacks to Oscar Wilde, Christina Stead to Grace Paley.
In it, Koval discusses her childhood and provides insights into her extraordinary mother and tragic family history. Essentially though, it is a journey through Koval’s diverse reading habits over time—from politics to science, feminism, travel, polar explorers, anthropology, classics, and even the Kama Sutra—interspersed with citations and a few personal anecdotes about the authors she has befriended along the way.
Koval’s enthusiasm for reading bubbles from every page as she joins with us in a “magnificent party of the mind”. By the Book is quintessentially Koval: warm, bright, erudite and unmissable.
Book sales and signings will follow the lecture.
