Former Canberra Capitals player Janna Sladic has died from a suspected heroin overdose, media has today reported.
The 29-year-old was found by family at around 1.30am on Friday (20 February 2015) in West Belconnen, less than two weeks after walking free from court after convincing a judge she had made progress in her rehabilitation.
Janna was a rising basketball star and played as a reserve for the Canberra Capitals until a car crash ended her sporting career in 2005. Following the incident, she became addicted to heroin and told an ACT court in 2012 that she turned to crime to fund her addiction.
Since 2005, Janna was convicted of 37 offences, including one of aggravated robbery for holding up the Hawker KFC outlet with a knife.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
