Canberra in the key of Australiana

More coverage soon on the launch of the Wedded Bliss’s “Swingin’ Arms Hotel” album but this performance by comedian Jay Sullivan really was something else for all lovers of Canberra. Don’t be deterred by the slow start, it really goes off towards the end.

Apologies for the auto focus periodically bugging out, just enjoy it for the listening. You’ll never look at Gungahlin the same way again.

Hi guys,

Jay here. Thanks so much for the positive comments!

I have done Canberriana three times now, I am hoping to learn it before the 11th, for the Austen gig, so I don’t have to read it, and then I’ll see what happens on the night.

Now, the reason I joined…apart from the fact that it is a brilliant site, is that if anyone was thinking of going to see Austen on the 11th – you can call the Tuggeranong Arts Centre and mention “JAY SULLIVAN” or “STAND UP ACT” and get a $10 ticket. Spread the word. I would hate to think someone would pay $30, when they could pay $10, and with the money you save, you can buy THE WEDDED BLISS’ album – Swinging Arms Hotel, which is brilliant.

Love it. Where can we see this guy? Does he perform regularly?

Last night I moseyed along to the Comedy Club presented by Stand Up ACT, upstairs at the Civic Pub.
Highly Recommended! Funny as, plenty of good seating/standing (although it was a packed house), reasonable drink prices & snacking food available. $5 entry is good value, particularly when gigs at places like the Comedy Store in Sydney will be $20 & up. Well done folks!

Jay did Canberrana again and has already added 3 Canbry ‘burbs in response to the predictable “Why didn’t you include Farrer?”. I hope he does it at the upcoming Austen Tayshus gig on next Thu11Jun 8pm (tix $30) @ Tuggers Arts Centre- .

The other stand out (although they were all good & fairly angsty), were Herbie & The Coleslaws. Music & ‘umor, with rood bits. Noice!

Future gigs- the public FaceCrack group is probably the best place to look-, but I understand that there will be Open Mic nights at The Front in Lyneham (?3rd Thursday of the month) & various acts at upstairs at The Civic Pub on the 1st Wednesday of the month (’twas Tues this week to avoid an Origin clash). Else the gig guide at . Enjoy.

Jay is a legend!

Jay’s web site has upcoming gigs, or you can find him on Farcebook.

it occurs to me with so few comments that there may be a reasonably young r.a. readership [trying desperately not to conclude the inverse, that i am getting old!] who don’t really know austen tayshus. his original is still one of my most treasured moments in my humour history…

I was there and it felt a little cringy at first but you really had to smile at the way he’d worked the suburbs in … the range of reactions at my table went from great hilarity to shaken head disbelief … overall I thought it very clever … and I realised how long it had been since Austen-Tayshus had been in my thoughts 😉

On another note I took some photos of the Wedded Bliss and will post some as soon as I’ve processed them.
