Canberra Poetry Slam at the Front

Those crazy kids over at the Canberra poetry slam are running two slams there this month, this is the second.

They sent us these words about the event, because they like words.

May Poetry Slam Part 2

This month sees the social calendar bookended by two editions of the Canberra Poetry Slam.

Part 2 starts Friday the 31st at the Front Gallery. As with all our slams, we open the slam sign up sheet at 7:30pm, and commence with the Open Mike around 7:40pm before moving onto the Slam.

The Open Mike is an opportunity for experienced poets and spoken word artists, and those trying for the very first time,

The Slam rules:
– 3 minute limit
– 1 poem that you have composed
– no props or musical accompaniment

The Canberra Poetry Slam prizes are sponsored by Palace Cinemas and the night will also feature guest acts

The featured performers will be NSW Slam Poetry Champion Zohab Zee Khan and singer-songwriter Andre Camelleri.

Zohab is a nomadic spoken word artist and is the founding director of Zee Poetics, an organisation that aims to inspire a new generation of poets through performance based workshops. He has been writing and performing poetry since the age of 13 and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. He is the current NSW Poetry Slam Champion and a three time Australian Poetry Slam finalist. Zohab has had the pleasure of performing alongside the likes of Sarah Kay, Phil Kaye and Amir Sulaiman amongst others. Zohab’s high energy performance will knock your socks off!
