UPDATE: Police investigate death at Canberra's prison, which sent facility into lockdown

UPDATED, 10 pm: Police are investigating after a person died at Canberra’s jail on Sunday, which had resulted in the facility being put into lockdown.

“ACT Policing is investigating a death at the Alexander Maconochie Centre that occurred earlier today (Sunday 26 February 2023),” an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

“A report will be prepared for the coroner.”

SUNDAY, 26 February: An incident resulted in Canberra’s prison going into lockdown on Sunday (26 February).

A spokesperson for the Justice and Community Safety Directorate confirmed “an incident” had occurred at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) at about 1 pm that afternoon.

“While ACT Policing investigates the incident, the AMC has been placed into lockdown,” the spokesperson said.

I saw an ambulance turn in there just after 1pm.
