'Unwell' AMC detainee dies in hospital

An “unwell” 73-year-old detainee from the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) has died.

An ACT Corrective Services spokesperson said the person died in hospital on Wednesday (13 February).

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the person’s family at this sad time,” they said.

“The individual had been unwell and receiving medical care since being remanded to the Alexander Maconochie Centre earlier this year.”

A coronial inquiry will investigate the detainee’s death.
