Two Capital Chemist pharmacies have re-opened with reduced operating hours after being closed for deep cleaning.

The pharmacies at Lyneham and Kingston were temporarily closed after being listed as COVID-19 exposure sites last week.

As some staff members remain in quarantine following advice from ACT Health, the pharmacies have reduced trading hours, but are doing their best to meet community requirements for essential services such as prescriptions.

Capital Chemist Group Business Manager Andrew Topp says staff across the Canberra pharmacies are working hard to provide an essential health service to the community.

He said pharmacies that had to temporarily close have been deep cleaned and measures have been put in place to keep staff and customers safe during the current lockdowns.

“With increasing cases in the ACT we are working hard to keep all our pharmacies open so we can keep serving the community, but there may be some restrictions on how we can operate, such as triaging patients at the front door and limiting access into the pharmacy,” Andrew said.

“At Capital Chemist, our focus has always been on keeping you, your family and the community healthy, and we remain committed to serving the Canberra community.”

Lyneham Capital Chemist will operate for limited hours and management has advised customers to visit other local pharmacies in the short term if possible.

The Lyneham store will be open on Friday, 20 August, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, but will be closed on Saturday, 21 August and Sunday, 22 August.

Trading hours for next week are still to be determined.

Kingston Capital Chemist will operate under reduced trading hours from Friday, 20 August to Thursday, 26 August, and will be closed for 30 minutes during lunchtime for store cleaning

  • Friday 20 August: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (closed 1:00 – 1:30 pm)
  • Saturday 21 August: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (closed 1:00 – 1:30 pm)
  • Sunday 22 August: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (closed 1:00 – 1:30 pm)
  • Monday 23 August: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (closed 1:00 – 1:30 pm)
  • Tuesday 24 August: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (closed 1:00 – 1:30 pm)

  • Thursday 26 August: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (closed at 1:00 – 1:30 pm).

Kingston staff can provide delivery for prescriptions or over-the-counter items for customers feeling unwell or experiencing cold and flu symptoms.

Capital Chemist Charnwood is now opening from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm every day.

Capital Chemist Curtin is now opening 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday and 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.

Capital Chemist Southlands is opening 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily from 20 August until further notice.

Deep-cleaning

Andrew said staff across all the Capital Chemist pharmacies appreciate the community’s patience.

“Our staff are working hard under difficult circumstances, but we look forward to helping you however we can.

“We offer services like home delivery and car park collection to help keep everyone safe.”

Andrew says COVID-19 vaccines are still being administered during opening hours.

“If you have a vaccine booking at a Capital Chemist pharmacy and your booking is affected by these reduced hours, we will contact you to reschedule,” he added.

Customers are being reminded not to enter the pharmacies if they have any symptoms such as a sore throat, cough, fever or shortness of breath.

“Instead, call us during our opening hours to find out about how we can assist you,” Andrew said.

If you do have any symptoms, also make sure you get tested at one of the ACT testing sites.

Updated opening hours will be available on the Capital Chemist website and store Facebook pages.
