Car thefts ‘cost ACT $820,000 a month’

Special G 16 November 2005 2

Canberra Times is reporting here about the car theft rate in the ACT.

How is it that in Australia we seem to have a car theft rate of 4 times higher than other developed nations.

Chief of Police Audrey Fagan “And 81 per cent of car thefts were resolved, with the cars found and offenders brought before the courts. ”

Doesn’t help when the Courts just let them go again to steal another car. You would think with things like the Clea Rose incident and Ram raids happening some of the Magistrates would start to take a hard stand on the common link – Car thefts.

After having my Group 1 VH Brock Commodore stolen a number of years ago, I totally concur with Che.

It seems magistrates don’t quite understand how much hardship one is put through when their car gets stolen.

It is not only the money involved but all the time you need to spend taking to the police, going and seeing the burnt out wreck, buying another car or lending one for a while, and in my case, driving to Bargo where mine was dumped after it blew a tyre.

the pricks should also be docked money from their dole to pay for the damages.
