Careers careers careers – Canberra Careers Market at the AIS

johnboy 29 July 2009 3

For some of us it might be a little late in the day.

But for younger readers considering their education options, and the parents of younger readers, it’s worth noting that the Canberra Careers Market is on again in early August.

From their blurb:

The Canberra Careers Market is an annual event usually conducted on the first Wednesday and Thursday of August each year. The Rotary Club of Canberra City Canberra Careers Market specialises in the provision of valuable career opportunities to secondary students throughout the ACT and surrounding NSW schools network.

There are over 80 local and national exhibitors, including universities, colleges, and career placement organisations providing a wide range of information sources. The Market is open from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm on both days, with an evening session from 4.30 pm to 8.00 pm on Wednesday. Entry is FREE.

As an added bonus I gather some very handsome police will be in attendance offering advice on how to enter their noble profession.

I spent one, in the early 80s, being talked out of journalism by Bruce Juddery. I wonder why on earth they put him on the AJA stand?

I went to one of these as an adolescent in another city. I already knew where I was headed (oh, the certainty of youth!) so I spent the whole time talking to the quantity surveyor- only because he looked lonely and noone else wanted to talk to him!
As yes, I do work in that original career!
