I need to get the goss…

Anyone know what’s going on with Carlos at Watson? I rode past there half an hour ago and they’d taken their sign down.

I know someone related to Carlos died recently because there was a massive wake there a few weeks back.

I never liked the place, but if they are packing up, I’m hoping someone else will take over and turn it into something more appealing.

my partner worked at carlos restrant for about 2 years as the head chef when Karl died (the owner) the family sold the buisness. but the buisness was up for sale long befor that.

the kitchen has been redone and everything is brand new, they have a much better quality of food now and the menu is fine dining. they will be cooking everything from scrach including making the pasta in house. the new owner joey is a chef himself so the whole team has training in food making it now one of the best restrants in canberra, the grand opening is tonight (the 27th) and the media is all over it!
so next time your thinking about eating out go to joeys! and tell them to say hi to chris the chef.

I treated my partner to breakfast at Joey’s on Saturday. The food was delicious. I found the price to be really good as well; much cheaper than what i have been paying in town and better quality food and service.

I had the eggs benedict yummo cooked to perfection. My partner had the big breakfast and was very impressed.

The dinner and lunch menus also looked really inviting but am yet to try these out.

One of the owners is a good friend of mine. Her husband is the Joey you mentioned. It should be opening in just under two weeks.

Thanks for the update Riley. Sounds yummo! I can’t wait to try it. It would be awesome to have a restaurant we like walking distance from our place. Or even just to have a drink after school.

They have stripped out the whole interior. Will be interesting to see what it will look like.

Watson is trendy? Since when?

Go Joey! Big whoop if your name is less fancy than Carlo. Hope he makes pastizzi!!

I have an issue with the new name “Joeys cafe” sounds a bit ordinary for this trendy area! Anyone elses thoughts??????

Yeah, the new place is going to be called Joey’s Kitchen. It’s being opened up by a Maltese/Australian man, Joey. I think Joey said he’s lived in Canberra as a food wholesaler for the last five or so years and before that owned a restaurant/cafe in Balmain in Sydney. It’ll have a much smaller menu, with say five entrees, five mains type thing for dinner, as well as breakfast and lunch menus. The food will be Mediterranean based and hopefully much more gourmet than Carlos’ menu. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes, but so far from what I’ve heard, it’s looking pretty good.

I*t’s closed, but there’s a sign up there now saying “Joey’s Kitchen”. Which doesn’t sound very inspiring, but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I’m sure JohnBoy won’t be shedding a tear for them…

Awww….that’s a bummer.

The woman who is now my wife suggested we meet for our first very tentative date at this establishment. Being from the southside, and also being a bloke, I naturally became utterly confused and arrived at the Lyneham shops at the appointed time. I searched far and wide for a place called Carlos, and eventually discovered the awful truth. I then made an emergency dash to Watson, arriving about 20 minutes late to find her sitting there with an empty coffee cup and one of those “This idiot has stood me up” expressions. We’ve since been back there and giggled about it many times.

Anyway, all things change. I wish the new owners well.

Funny, when I saw the add in the paper at first glance I though it was advising that Carlo’s was closing, I probably would have moved on but was a long way from finishing breakfast so read the text only to see that there are new owners.

It seemed quite odd really and certainly gave me the impression that the business was being shut down, I suspect the new owners might suffer from that impression….although if they are pulling down the sign and renaming it maybe they wont.

Ah, thanks!

I’ll have to try it out soon then.

Article in the paper this week said it had been sold to new owners – I imagine that they are in the process of putting their stamp on the place instead of it being a legacy or homage to the previous owner.
