The Canberra Times reports that Jon Stanhope has come out as the first ACT politician to publicly state in principle support for a continued legal fireworks regime.
- Mr Stanhope said he had traditionally been more for the regulated use of fireworks, rather than for an outright ban, but the Government would look at all the information from last weekend before making a decision.
His personal position had been ”one of seeking to maintain an opportunity for people to use fireworks responsibly”. But Mr Stanhope said the Government would reconsider that position, as it had done after every June long weekend.
It will get very interesting to see what John Hargreaves does now.
