Mayor Rattenbury is claiming success in the first stage of Cotter Road upgrades:
Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, today announced Cotter Road has reopened to traffic following the first stage of upgrades.
The ACT Government invested $7.15 million toward stage one of the upgrade to help cater for the increased population in new residential areas of the Molonglo Valley as well as existing residents of the inner south.
“Cotter Road is a major thoroughfare for people travelling from inner south suburbs such as Weston Creek and Curtin through to the city and its traffic volume is expected to grow as the population increases in new suburbs in the West, such as in the Monlonglo Valley,” said Mr Rattenbury.
“The upgraded road coincides with a proposal for the first ACTION bus route to service Molonglo suburbs. ‘Network 14’, which is currently open for consultation, proposes a bus service to link Molonglo residents to Weston Creek, Woden, and the City.
“The Cotter Road upgrade will enhance public transport travel times by providing bus priority measures so that buses can bypass traffic. It also provides quality on-road cycling lanes to complement the off-road bike paths in the area.
Stage 2 remains on the drawing board.
