Announcement about Death cap victims memorial service

We will be holding a memorial service at the German club (49 Jerrabomberra Avenue Narrabundah ACT 2604 (02) 6295 9853) tomorrow (Saturday the 14th) at 11:00am for Liu Jun and Tsou Kuei Hsiang.

Please tell anyone in the community that would like to pay their respects at this memorial.

Unfortunately only Liu Jun’s family will be able to attend as it is expected that Tsou Kuei Hsiang’s son (Lin Jian) will arrive in Sydney on Monday at this stage.

In this case I will no longer be able to meet him at the airport as I fly out to China for 4 weeks at 8:00am Sunday morning, which is exceptionally dissapointing.

Whilst I am away I will be contactable by email at; tomneilodea@lycos.com or China mobile – (0011) (86) 183 500 213 82.

Thanks once again for your help and support in our cause.

Cheers, Tom…

Ms Gallagher made the very welcome announcement that the ACT Government plans ongoing support for those two young kids and, I understand, an adult one. Their parents died here, and even if Canberra doesn’t technically have a legal responsibility, getting those younger kids an education and the older one support (remember, Chinese families generally don’t have cousins, aunts and uncles thanks to the one-child policy) is the right thing to do. There’s even an echo of Kemal Ataturk’s post-Gallipoli speech about it all (Katie’s unhip speechwriters must be unfamiliar with it):
“You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.”

Made the ABC evening news and Tomo got a guernsey too.
