The Hindu has a strange story in which Brett Lee expresses his love of Delhi by comparing it to Canberra.
If he was only 12th man (drinks carrier) and didn’t get onto the paddock at all in the Newcastle game, then you are right. Only he would remember, I guess!
He played against, um, Victoria around the start of the season and took 1/99 and 2/15 I think.
Ah, so we are both wrong!
Or both right…
Whatever, I want to see Binga and Mitch Johnston bowling together on a grassy Gabba…
Looks like the NSW/Qld game, 14-16 November 1997 – he was actually 12th man!
OK, so that was his first 1-day appearance for NSW; but his first 4-day game was some weeks earlier.
Here’s his one day debut.
Yep; when’s the PMs XI game, and still possible to get tickets?
I couldn’t be bothered going back through the scorecards.
Anyway, Ashes are only 4 weeks away!
Well the Newcastle game was a 4-dayer, for sure. I guess he could have played a 1-dayer previously, I don’t know – but I well recall his teammates (those who weren’t out on the paddock batting) giving him big handshakes etc.
Did he make his debut for NSW in a Shield match or a One dayer?
Now I’m intrigued.
very unusual thing to say. Let alone insunating that he liked canberra… how often does anyone of public notoriety admit that the place isnt as bad as it is made out.
Then again he could secretly mean that he thinks delhi is a shithole.
You could be right, but I thought it was a four-dayer. By a bizarre circumstance (tell you about it over a beer sometime), I was standing within earshot of Brett and the NSW 2nd XI manager/coach when Brett got his call-up to the 1st’s. He had to pull out of the 2nd XI game which had already started (v. Bushrangers at Hurstville Oval) in order to get to Newcastle for the next day. This was in October or November 1997. Natch, he and his teammates were really chuffed about it…
yeah, I’m pretty sure of it. It was a one dayer of course.
You sure, Thumper? His first game for NSW was in Newcastle – but I thought it was v. Bushrangers.
Interestingly Brett Lee’s first game for NSW was against our now defunct Comets.
Is Canberra's signature dish:
