Dendy have announced their Spring season of cult classics, which looks awesome.
Aliens on the big screen? YES.
Good to see Gemlins getting some love too.
I imagine the Labyrinth session will be rather difficult to get tickets to.

Canberra Drive-ins used to have all night classic horror & Sci-Fi movie nights that lasted till the fog rolled in & you couldn’t see the screen. The best I remember was a film that was banned for a while called Targets starring Boris Karloff. It was about a Vietanam vet that goes on a shooting rampage that ends with him killing people from behind the screen at a Drive-in that Boris is watching the premiere of his movie at. It came out just after the Kennedy & Luther King Jnr assassinations.

I’ve been there and saw a few indie films over the years, but at that time I didn’t have the means to go to the classic late-night double feature picture shows you describe. I must admit I’m jealous though, Dr. Strangelove is a great film

Yes, yes, it’s very sad, Dendy can’t compare blah blah. But for those of us that were too young to appreciate electric shadows before it shut down, the prospect of seeing a GOOD movie in an actual cinema is pretty damn appealing. I can’t even remember the last time there was something genuinely good playing at the movies, I think those days were before my time.

I went to one of the very last showings of Dr Strangelove at Electric Shadows before it closed, there’s a real cult classic in a proper independent cinema.
Except that, SOYLENT GREEN aside (and maybe BARBARELLA), none of these movies are really what you would technically regard as “cult” They’re fan favourites. But that’s been consistent with all of Dendy’s “cult” seasons. (If you want to see what real cult cinema is, go back and look at some of the old Electric Shadows calendars and look up the late night (i.e. 11pm) screenings)).
RIPLEEEEEEEY!
KHAAAAAANNNN!!
