By RiotPost - 24 January 2010 13

Ok I know Australia Day is on Tuesday and most of us don’t actually have the Monday off but I’m going to bet that enough of the populace will be making a four day weekend of it.

So… assuming you are staying in Canberra, What are the top events and activities you recommend partaking of?

As always add the info in the COMMENTS!

What’s Your opinion?

If you want something family-friendly to take the kids to on Australia Day 2010 (apart from BBQs with family and friends), there’s a round-up of local events at the Brindabella Baby blog – National Museum, official Australia Day stuff etc. You can also check out the National Gallery’s Masterpieces From Paris exhibition (not free, but cheap and educational). The Australian National Botanic Garden have the Replant: a new generation of botanical art exhibition on til 31 January, and it’s free. The Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House is also open on Australia Day, with cheap entry and educational interactive family activities. And “Blue in Red” are playing at the Botanic Gardens 6pm til 7:30pm on the Eucalypt Lawn.

Well the ACT Government has made up its own long weekend by introducing double demerit revenue raising across the weekend, so I think it’s only fair with that in mind, that we all get to take the day off on Monday with full pay.

Or you could just drive like a mature adult, not commit any traffic offences, and the issue doesn’t touch you at all.

I second that. All those in favour, say “Aye”. It’s about time this useless guvmint did something worthwhile.

Great original music as usual brought to you by Cardboard Vharlie and MCed by Rach.
