It’s here, the weekend when Canberra stops to celebrate my birthday.

What events will you be going to this weekend to mark this momentous occasion? (or otherwise).

Anything ‘kid friendly’ on this weekend?

I thought there might have been something at National Museum, but no dice.

However, for the bigger kids, the political cartoon exhibition closes on Sunday. Still haven’t gotten there so I’ll be checking it out on Sunday afternoon.

Entry is free.

Teams can be anything from one to whatever! However, more heads usually mean more success. Too many can leave people feeling left out.

If we get more than eight in Tram 45 we’d need to move out to the tables, but that hasn’t happened. Six is probably a comfortable number for a tram.

Teams are also pretty fluid. For instance, if we end up with just two again this week we’d probably team up with the Kevin Bacon Fan Club for the week.

$75 cash for the winning team to split, less for second and third (and some of those might be Tradies vouchers?). There are also $5 Tradies vouchers given out for this and that during the evening which we usually put towards drinks etc.

How many on a team Granny and is here an entry fee per person?

Question about the Trivia, what are the prizes?

Brumbies fan day Griffith Oval 11AM Saturday.

Well ‘John Howard’ will be doing the ACT Launch of the rivetting climate change book Climate Code Red today (Friday 30th January) at 5pm at Smiths Alternative Bookshop in the Melbourne Building. Rumour has it he’ll be apologising for his policy lunacy. Be there to hear this historic speech.

Also there’s a Rock School production on Sunday in the National Museum courtyard starting at 2pm.

Brumbies trial v. the Hurricanes tonight at Canberra Stadium,

followed by the Missing Lincolns CD Launch at The Front!

Tonight (Thursday): Domus Adultus at the Hippo Bar from 8pm (from memory, possibly earlier). Stack of great acts but don’t have them to hand. Check out the CMC website or your favourite search engine for more.

A little bit more info on this one:

Subject: Domus Adultus, Alison Procter Fills a Hole

Domus Adultus, the new CMC weekly night of music that kicked off last Thursday, continues tonight and excitingly for those of you who might find it exciting, Alison Procter has spontaneously agreed to fill a gap that arose in the schedule when The Bionic Hearts bionic hearts failed them at the last moment. This will make it your last chance to see Alison Procter, solo and unwed, in Canberra or anywhere else for that matter. Thus the line-up for tonight will be:

Ted Conrick, Manouche a Trois, Briony Wills and a cameo from MC Ben Drysdale.

It runs from 8pm to midnight and costs $7/5 for CMC members.

B’day beer for JB next weekend when I is in town I say!

Ani Difranco playing at the Canberra Theatre on Monday night (2nd Feb).
Should be awesome, I can’t wait!!

Tonight (Thursday): Domus Adultus at the Hippo Bar from 8pm (from memory, possibly earlier). Stack of great acts but don’t have them to hand. Check out the CMC website or your favourite search engine for more.

Friday: David Hyams and Miles to Go trio plus DJ and Karismakatz at the new Folkus Room, Italo-Australian Club, Forrest from 8pm. Looking forward to this one.

Friday: US blues legend Del Ray plus Canberra Ukuleles at the Merry Muse, Polish White Eagle Club, Turner from 8pm.

Radio stuff. I’m presenting World Vibe (Friday, 7-8pm), Patchwork (folk, Sunday, 10am-midday) and Folk on Sunday (7-8pm) on Artsound FM, 92.7FM and 90.3FM in Tuggeranong.

Monday. Trivia in the Trams at the Tradies, Dickson from about 7.15pm. Free entry. This week’s special round: Academy Award winning films.

Is that it? Might have to stay at home and make my own fun I think 🙂
