My desk calendar informs me that “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” – Eleanor Roosevelt

So what beautiful local events and activities are you dreaming of partaking in this weekend??

Thanks for the advice jennybel – I kind of guessed that’s what it was.

But in this situation, I loved having an excuse to rant about a topic I am passionate about!

Calligraphy, you’re new here, so I’ll give you some advice that’s been given many times over in similar situations:

DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS.
DO NOT TAKE ANY BAIT LEFT LYING AROUND!

I’m not. I find women’s sport to be a joke and nowhere near as good as the proper stuff.

That’s your loss.

Women’s sports are just as skillful, competitive and compelling as men’s sports, but thanks to the double standards still dominating this country and the lack of media coverage of women’s games (thank God for the ABC) it doesn’t have the profile it deserves.

And attitudes like yours in public spaces like this perpetuates this double standard.

I was impressed during a trip to NZ to see that netball featured as strongly as rugby as a national sport – having a strong profile and a pervasive fan base.

And let’s compare the NBL with the WNBL: as the Canberra Times predicted in their new year’s sports pages, who cares who wins the NBL this year? It’s the WNBL that features in the news (albeit not as often as the football).

Computer Market, EPIC Saturday 10AM – 2:30PM. Admission $3.00, accompanied kids free.

I’m going to see the Capitals play at Tuggeranong on Saturday night.

What a comeback the team has made since the gorgeous LJ has come home – and I can’t wait to see Bishop, Bibby, Tolo, etc work their magic again.

Sometimes the best show is on the sidelines though – watch as Graffy performs the Goose Walk, or the return of the Flapping Crane is always a highlight worth waiting for. Love it!

How about Fred Smith & The Spooky Men’s Chorale, especially if you missed them together at the National Folk Fest last year? The Spooks have just got back from a few months touring overseas. Tomorrow night (Fri) 8pm at The Playhouse, Canb Theatre Centre.
