Down to meet their makers

manhattan apartments

John has sent in another great shot of the construction of the forthcoming Manhattan apartments in Civic with this dramatic note:

What Fowell Mansfield Jarvis & Maclurcan shall design with podium to lessen turbulence, so shall another mob rent asunder, for the temporary reprieve of chaotic Binara winds.

Their toil is nearly complete, and yet still they descend, perhaps to be closer to their maker.

What’s Your opinion?

I’m a bit disconcerted with the Innovation building next door.

For those who aren’t familiar, the side of that building, as shown in the picture above, has no windows at certain places. I believe it was designed so as to avoid the awkward situation of peering into one another’s buildings where your windows are very close.

So, what is it going to be like when a new apartment goes up? Will they take into consideration the ‘blind’ spots of the Innovation building? Or should blinds and hammer drills be at the ready in order to adjust the lovely view accordingly?

Looking at the plans at the Manhattan site it would appear that the new building will be set halfway towards Binari St where it faces the existing windows, with presumably just a corridor or blank wall facing Innovation, and all apartments face out to Glebe Park. Where the existing towers were there will be floor plates as well it looks like. Some Innovation offices will lose their view of Glebe Park though from the look of it. Anyone out there with detailed knowledge of the back half of the new building?

I love how they give these apartments such aspirational names. What about Fred? Rather than saying “I live at The Manhatten, Dahling”, how much more unique and special it would be to say “I dwell at the new, exclusive, granite-benchtopped Fred apartments”.

You should have a look at places with Chinese influence – Tycoon Court in HK is my favourite.
