Dunlop man to face court for threatening men with shotgun

A verbal argument regarding a parked car in a residence in Florey escalated when a man brandished a Beretta single barrel shotgun and threatened two men with it, police say.

At about 2 pm on Friday (January 26), officers from Belconnen Police Station responded to reports of a man possessing a firearm at a residence in Florey. It is alleged that a 67-year-old Dunlop man was involved in a verbal argument over a parked car, when he retrieved the shotgun from his vehicle and threatened two men with it. The firearm was eventually removed from the man following a scuffle, until police arrived at the scene and arrested him.

The man was charged with possess offensive weapon with intent, unauthorised possession or use of prohibited firearm, and two counts of reckless threat to kill a person. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 27 January ) and Police say they will oppose bail.
