Actor and comedian Osamah Sami is Ali: a young man determined to make his family proud – especially his father, an Iraqi Shia cleric. There’s a lot of weight on Ali’s shoulders as he finds himself torn between the girl he loves and another he’s been promised to, while trying to become the successful doctor his family expects him to be.

Sami’s hilarious and heartfelt debut feature, Ali’s Wedding explores the challenges of family duty in the suburban migrant experience, the perils of faking it to make it, and, ultimately, the power of love.

‘an astute perspective on the immigrant experience, multicultural communities, and trying to reconcile traditional and modern cultures… authentic, affectionate and amusing’ – Screen Daily

This title is held in the NFSA collection.
