70’s icon and world-famous singer songwriter, Ambassador Mr Leo Sayer together with Canberra Hospital Foundation are thrilled to announce we will host our inaugural Golden Gala dinner on Friday 4 August in the QT Canberra Ballroom. We invite you to join us to celebrate 50 years since the opening of the Canberra Hospital, then called Woden Valley Hospital.
Happy Golden Anniversary!!!
Please join us for a glamourous and fun evening and enjoy live entertainment from Mr Leo Sayer and Spectrum Big Band with canapes, a sit-down two-course dinner, beverages, silent and live auction, and incredible prizes to win! All in the stunning surrounds of the QT Canberra Ballroom.
It is our goal to achieve exceptional results through the inaugural Golden Gala dinner fundraising event with all funds raised helping to make a tangible difference for our community by supporting the Cancer Wellbeing Centre and research equipment for the new Cancer Research Hub.
50 years ago in May, Canberra Hospital (then ‘Woden Valley Hospital’) welcomed its first ever patients. Things looked very different back in May 1973.
Then, May 1973 Canberra Hospital:
- Had 36 beds
- Had 175 staff members, including 20 student nurses
- Served a population of around 172,000
Now, May 2023 Canberra Hospital and Canberra Health Services:
- Has around 650 beds
- Has around 8,000 staff including 1450 student nurses
- Provides care to a population of more than 650,000 people
What a journey, and what a night it will be! Happy Golden Anniversary to our dedicated & hard working healthcare workers.
