MoAD’s latest exhibition Behind the Lines: The year in political cartoons opens this weekend, and a few lucky Canberrans have the opportunity to attend this Friday’s launch and hear special guest Dr Karl Kruszelnicki give his take on the year that was.

With most of us still wondering ‘what the pup’ just happened, this year’s Behind the Lines with the theme – 2020 A dog’s breakfast! – will help us all make sense of a year which left most of us reeling.

Free tickets [online bookings essential] are available for the exhibition launch at 11AM on Friday 20 November 2020 in King’s Hall at Old Parliament House, where MoAD will announce its Political Cartoonist of the Year. Dr Karl will take part in a facilitated Q&A, answering questions from the audience.

Register your spot to attend the launch or if you can’t make it in person, join from the comfort of your couch and watch the livestream.

From the bushfire summer to the global pandemic and a host of political issues in between, the nation’s cartoonists had plenty to work with in 2020 as they mapped the nation’s politics and our reactions, illuminating our shock and fears. When have we needed our political cartoonists so much?

Each year, Behind the Lines – MoAD’s most popular exhibition – celebrates the role contemporary political cartoons play in Australia’s rich tradition of free speech and political expression.

Open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from 21 November. Don’t miss it.
