Molonglo Valley Summer Safety Session 2020

Woden Community Service, in collaboration with ACT Rural Fire Service, ACT State Emergency Service and Mingle, invite residents of Molonglo to a fun, family friendly event to learn about bushfire safety, storm preparedness and a number of other interactive safety topics.

In addition to Interactive Summer Safety workshops and displays, the event has fun interactive games, BBQ, music, and interactive and educational workshops by ACT Snake Removals who will bring along non venomous pythons and lizards.

This will be the second year that this amazing event has run in the Molonglo Valley community. During COVID-19, your health and safety is our priority. This event will have measures in place to look after our community.

*This event is intended for residents of Wright and Coombs.

Come along any time between 11:00 am and 1:30 pm and join in on one of the safety demonstrations (these will run regularly throughout the event).

Molonglo Valley Summer Safety Session 2020

The Summer Safety Session will include interactive workshop by ACT Snake Removals.

The Summer Safety Session will include:

  • Bushfire survival plans, bush & grass fire safety
  • House fire safety (heaters, dryers, unattended cooking)
  • Property Preparedness talk – basic preparedness such as clearing the gutters of leaves, keeping lawns short, moving flammable items away from the house and trimming back overhanging branches
  • Storm preparedness & safety
  • Burn table – demonstrates how fire behaviour changes on different slope and terrain, how weather and wind affects fire, how different fuel loads affect fire and how prepared homes may withstand the effects of fire
  • Bushfire Survival Plan stall – The ACT Rural Fire Service will have a stall to help members of the public complete their bushfire survival plan. Show members of the public on what to pack in their evacuation kit and also what to wear if the household decides to stay and defend the property
  • Fun and interactive games for children, including the flame game!
  • Check out the fire tanker
  • Delicious BBQ (via gold coin donation)
  • A host of local community groups to meet
  • Interactive and educational workshops by ACT Snake Removals who will bring along non venomous pythons and lizards

Groups attending the event are:

  • ACT Fire and Rescue – Pumper present and providing house fire information
  • State Emergency Service (SES)
  • ACT Rural Fire Service
  • Woden Community Service – Stall with program information and fun games
  • Molonglo Bible Church – doing our delicious BBQ! (please bring a gold coin donation for this)
  • Mingle – stall with information about exciting community events and initiatives
  • ACT Snake Removals
  • Coombs/Wright Neighbourhood Watch – Crime Stoppers – provision of information and flyers
  • A host of other community groups

We also have a coffee van and live music as well!

We are keeping a close eye on COVID-19 restrictions, and if circumstances change we may alter or postpone events at short notice. We will keep you informed. We ensure that attendees adhere to physical distancing practices, encourage good hand hygiene and remind you to stay home if you are unwell.

Registering for the event allows us to keep track of how many people might come along and also helps with any COVID-19 tracing we may need to do. Please note that tickets are limited.
