Canberra Theatre Centre is proud to present legendary band Yothu Yindi as part of this year’s Reconciliation Concert.

The multi-award winning band will share the stage with host Tahalianna Soward-Mahanga, and powerful young Canberran First Nation artists Alinta Barlow and Stewart Barton, in a celebration of their voices, stories and music.

Canberra Theatre Centre has presented the Reconciliation Concert on Ngunnawal Country since 2018, bringing together music lovers to mark the start of National Reconciliation Week.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023, Be a Voice for Generations, urges all Australians to use their power, their words and their vote to create a more just Australia for all of us.

Yothu Yindi’s career has spanned multiple decades, bringing together Yolgnu voices and rhythms with rock n roll and electronic sounds. Their hit singles and albums including ‘Treaty’, ‘Tribal Voice’, ‘Timeless Land’, have won 8 ARIA awards. Yothu Yindi have toured the globe, winning fans across the US, Europe and the Pacific. They’ve performed all across Australia, including with Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly, Neil Young and Santana. In 2012 they were inducted alongside the greats of Australian music into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

Alinta Barlow is a proud Ngunnawal singer-songwriter. After completing a Bachelor of Music in Newcastle, the singer returned to Canberra to be with her family and friends. Alinta has begun to incorporate Ngunnawal language into her beautiful songs – and by doing this hopes to revive and share her love for this language with others.

Born in Canberra, Stewart Barton grew up surrounded by music and was determined to become a guitarist. Initially self-taught, he developed his skills through programs for emerging Indigenous artists in the ACT region. Stewart brings his soulful voice and rich guitar playing to the Canberra Theatre stage.

Bringing the event together is host Tahalianna Soward-Mahanga – a Wiradjuri teen with a powerful voice, who made it to the blind audition stage of last year’s season of The Voice.
