Snowtown – Justin Kurzel, 2011.

Director Justin Kurzel retells the infamous Snowtown murders (the ‘bodies in the barrels’), one of the darkest crimes in Australian history. In this chilling feat of true-crime cinema, Kurzel takes audiences into the perspective of 16-year-old Jamie (Lucas Pittaway), as father-figure/mentor John (Daniel Henshall) preys on his vulnerabilities, gradually manipulating his involvement in one of Australia’s most notorious cases.

‘Terrific performances, especially from the menacing, lazily charismatic Henshall, and debut director Kurzel’s expressionist storytelling make for an Aussie film well worth hunting down.’ – Empire
