Extreme Heat Warning now stretching from Tuesday to Saturday

This just up on the Public Health Alerts:

ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Paul Kelly and ACT Ambulance Service Chief Officer Mr David Foot today warned Canberrans that prolonged extreme heat conditions are forecast for the ACT this week from Tuesday 14 January until Saturday 18 January.

“We are all susceptible to heat-related stress and illness, which can range from mild to very serious. However, the elderly, young children and babies are most at risk during heat events.”

ACT residents are encouraged to monitor family, friends and neighbours for symptoms of heat stress and implement some simple strategies to stay healthy during this heat event.

This is the reason I logged into RA to post this evening.

May I add that people need to be vigilant about consuming meat(s) in particular fish, chicken and seafood and ham that may be ‘off’ through suppliers, whether it be take-away or through outlets, given that twice over 15 years ago I consumed bought ham and steak that caused severe food poisoning prior to marriage and raising Children, which taught me to be extremely mindful of purchased meats during temps in the high 30’s and 40’s.

Hams can be on manufacturing tables that have turned off prior to packaging, meats transported on some occasions can be ‘off’ during long distance travel after trucks sit for a while on docks during loading.

Smell the meats first prior to cooking, look at the meat to identify gross sliminess/sweating, use the meats within a day of being purchased and never longer unless frozen.
