You saw it here first folks — the Arts Minister has been so kind as to send us pictures of a sculpture that has been commissioned for the new Civic Library and Link building.

The artwork is called Fractal Weave and will be created from woven copper pipes. It is by local artist David Jensz and should be ready for the building opening in September. Mr Jensz has had works shown in the National Sculpture Prize in 2003 and 2005 (see JB’s take on his work last year here).

I imagine they’ll be more interesting up close and personal. Skaters are going to love the stairs and ramps, though.

Yes, I was thinking doormats, too. Blimey, they look – what’s the word I’m after… – crap.

Looks like a couple of old door mats chucked up against a wall, actually.
A soothing image, but, it’s relevance to the Civic Library and Link project is…?
How about spending the money on what’s inside the library, surely of more value than exterior quasi- symbolism.

They look like a couple of poorly woven magic carpets… *scratches chin*
Maybe they the gummint are thinking laterally about public transport? Magic carpets for all! Couldn’t cost more than the busway, surely?

one could almost say that the artist has weaved himslef into the ACT public’s imagination

agreed. the sculpture looks really, really groovy

Damn they’ve even used the same picture (there was a choice of three)

Pah I say!

I quite like the sculpture actually.

Our good friends over in shittycity news are calling this their exclusive.

If those stairs go up, they would be quite fun to skateboard all over…
