The first Elm Grove residents are moving into their new homes in Bungendore’s newest estate, located just 30 minutes from Canberra’s city centre.
Morgan and Scott Andrew were handed the keys to their new home on 30 March.
Morgan said they designed the dream home on a large block to suit a young family, with four bedrooms and three living areas.
The Fisher couple won’t be moving in, though; they’ve placed it on the market and hope another family will enjoy the fruits of their labour.
“It’s a beautiful home in a beautiful location and I wish we were moving in,” Morgan said.
“Bungendore is really going ahead and it’s so close to Canberra.
“We live 30 minutes on the other side of Canberra, but have spent a lot of time in Bungendore finishing the landscaping with our kids in tow, and it’s such a nice spot for families.”
Morgan said the couple was attracted to the estate because of the proximity to Canberra, the good-sized blocks and the laid-back lifestyle.
“We looked at what we would want our dream house to look like, with lots of living space and a big yard for kids,” she added.
“I’m sure a family is going to love it there.”
Local builder Mitch Wind from MJ Building & Construction and his team have been working on several homes within the estate, including the Andrews’ home, and he said the big blocks allow plenty of space for a “decent-sized house”.
“We’re generally building single-level homes with four or five bedrooms, two or three living areas and alfresco entertaining areas,” he said.
“Most of the blocks are big enough for a big garage or man cave. They’re ideal for families with plenty of room to add a pool as well.”
He said the estate was well suited to families seeking to design and build their forever home.
With stage 1 sold out, stage 2a nearly all sold and another stage soon to be released, project director Duane Brinkmeyer said Elm Grove Estate has become one of the fastest-selling subdivisions in the Canberra region.
“Because our lots are so large, most of our customers are looking to upsize their family home after selling their current established home,” he said.
“Even in this market, we have customers who are taking advantage of the huge capital gains achieved during COVID and are reinvesting into a large block of land and building a new bigger home where, in some cases, their new mortgage repayment is about the same as their old mortgage, if not less.”
Duane said there’s not one other subdivision within 30 minutes of Canberra’s CBD that offers large, fully serviced lots from as low as $399 per square metre. And more than 70 per cent of the currently selling stage 2 lots are 1000 square metres or more.
“Paying less for land also means the typical Elm Grove customer has way more money to invest into building a larger and more family-friendly home,” he added.
There’s a range of level lots which are easier and cheaper to build on, as well as lots with amazing views of the valley and mountains that surround Bungendore.
Elm Grove Estate is a master-planned subdivision with lot sizes ranging from 850 square metres up to 1600 square metres, with a minimum 20-metre frontage for each lot.
Driving into the estate takes you past a large feature pond surrounded by a walking path, as well as a barbecue recreation area and undercover gazebos.
The estate is just a stone’s throw from trendy Bungendore with great shops, a supermarket, a new high school and a sporting hub, which is under construction.
At Elm Grove, you can live the country lifestyle surrounded by space and quality homes, without losing the benefits of Canberra city centre.
