The Canberra Times has a strange story in which our Liberal Senator, Gary Humphries, expresses his deep admiration for the late Al Grassby.
Gary thinks the multicultural centre is too mean an abode for this titan of Australian politics and would like the statue erected next to Edmund Barton’s (that is the first Prime Minister of Australia).
When asked if this means he considers Grassby to be comparable in stature to our first Prime Minister Gary appears to have regained his senses somewhat:
Asked whether Grassby was in the same league as Prime Minister Barton, Senator Humphries said he was not and there may be a more fitting way to commemorate the Grassby name.
Brilliant stuff.
UPDATE: Gary has now put out a media release emphatically denying he supports statues of Al Grassby.
You only have to look at the journo’s name to realise it must have been an April Fools joke.
Dobbin the mule – er, fool.
Looks like the CT has a new journo who clearly understands NOTHING… she should fit in nicely over there.
In Gazza’s defence, the article is the usual poorly written Crimes stuff, so he could have said anything.
saw a press release this am which said the ct journo had ignored him specifically saying he was against the statue.
Please Gary, tell me it was a joke. I really don’t want ALP to get back in the ACT next year, and lib lunacy like this (even at a different level of government) doesn’t help that cause.
Gazza’s been smoking the wog’s money crop
It is, afterall, the first day of April
Has to be an April fools day joke!
I love the photo with the article.
