Gilmore grassfire

Firefighters are working to extinguish a grass fire burning at the Monaro Highway close to Gilmore.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level has been set at ADVICE.

The ACT Rural Fire Service has seven units responding and is being supported by three ACT Fire & Rescue crews and a commander.

The fire is located near Tuggeranong Pines and was started from a car fire.

It is approximately two hectares and is contained.

Crews are conducting mopping operations at the grass fire burning along the Monaro Highway.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire has been set at ADVICE.

Another unit has been called in from Jerrabomberra.

It is expected firefighters will remain on scene for at least an hour.

3:32 PM

The fire has been extinguished but two ACT Rural Fire Service crews are monitoring the site.

The cause is not suspicious.

A man was driving along the Monaro Highway when a mechanical fault sparked a fire in the engine.

Multiple calls were made to Emergency Triple Zero (000) from 2:16pm.
