A KFC restaurant in Canberra’s south was evacuated this morning after a fire erupted in the kitchen.

Firefighting crews were called to the scene in Greenway, Tuggeranong, at around 8:50 am (25 October).

Smoke was seen pouring from the kitchen out into the car park and street. An employee of the Services Australia building took the photo below from an office window on Reed Street.

As the restaurant wasn’t scheduled to open until 10:30 am, only staff were inside. The building was evacuated and the fire was extinguished by ACT Fire & Rescue within half an hour. There were no injuries.

It’s understood KFC will be closed for the rest of the day. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

McDonald’s Tuggeranong, which shares the same car park, is also “temporarily closed”, according to its Google listing.
