The Greens’ Caroline Le Couteur has expressed Green displeasure with the Government once again ignoring the Legislative Assembly:

In 2009, the Greens with Liberal support passed legislation to ensure that all new houses in the ACT had energy efficient hot water services. The government voted against the legislation.

During the debate, then Planning Minister Andrew Barr said:

… I make the commitment that regardless of any national implementation date or timing for introduction into national codes or standards, the ACT will introduce appropriate legislation for new and replacement water heaters in class 1 buildings by 1 May 2010, to be effective no later than 1 July 2010.

Despite this undertaking, now, in 2012, the government has not done this. Caroline Le Couteur, ACT Greens Spokesperson for planning, has responded by putting forward new legislation to require future replacement of hot water systems in existing houses to be with more efficient systems.
