Gungahlin amenities worse than the youth detention centre?

johnboy 2 February 2007 7

The Liberals’ Zed Seselja is back in the saddle (calm down ladies) with a media release asking why the Gungahlin Community Council has had to ask for permission for Gungahlinistas to use the pool and oval at the planned Youth Detention Facility.

The implication being that the facilities of Gungahlin are so poor even a prison is better?

It may well be the best uni in Australia. Perhaps that has something to do with Stanhope not running it.

But it is Australia’s best University, so i’m happy to make the trip.

I live in Tuggeranong, and the nearest University is about 12 suburbs away. Its an outrage!

I agree with Mr Evil – we shouldn’t expect the govt to build everything for us.
However, it would be nice if the Govt actually spent SOME of the tax I pay on basic services instead of wasting it on Al Grasby, aboretums, and grants to Chic.
The Govt is very keen to grab money from the sale of land without wanting to invest in the infrastructure that comes with establishing a new suburb.
I live in a relatively new suburb
– the nearest bus stop is over 1.5km’s away – the roads aren’t wide enough to fit a bus remotely close to our house.

The nearest public highschool is 4 suburbs away- to get there by 9am by bus you need to leave home before 7.30am

No wonder people are leaving Canberra in droves.

If they want to swim they should move to Bruce, and have 3 within walking distance.

Why does everyone assume that they are automatically entitled to have a govt built swimming pool located within 100m of their house, and why is a detention centre getting a pool built anyway?

So does that mean the good folks of Jerra will be lining up to use the facilities of their local correctional organisation across the border at Hume?
