Liberal Leader Zed Seselja and Senator Gary Humphries are both in slack-jawed amazement at the astonishing scene this morning whereby the Commonwealth’s contribution to the Centenary of Canberra was announced to be a gift to Mr Stanhope’s pet arboretum project.
The long-awaited centenary gift to the people of Canberra turns out to be a gift to Jon Stanhope, not Canberrans suffering under significant cost-of-living pressures and Canberra’s national institutions struggling with cuts to their budgets as they are laying off staff, Leader of the Opposition, Zed Seselja and Liberal Senator for the ACT, Gary Humphries, said today.
“The announcement today of $20 million from the Commonwealth for the Arboretum is a present to Jon Stanhope, not a present to Canberrans,” Zed said.
