Hargreaves on P-Plates

Whomever in John Hargreaves’ office knows where the keys are to the website has returned and a media release from last week has duly gone online (and will you look at that picture? Shaved off the mo and gotten himself a spiky haircut and a steely glance from behind some classy rimless specs!).

He has some fun pointing out the differing positions in the Liberal party over P-plate drivers before laying out the Government’s policy on the subject:

Incentive based schemes centred around educating and improving the skills of young drivers, and rewarding achievements in this area is the most effective way encouraging responsible driving

Personally I find very little in this world to be as instructive as a police-person explaining exactly what one has done wrong in front of a public audience while one waits to learn if one is getting off with a warning or getting hit with a painful fine.

But maybe that’s just me.

Lately I’ve seen some shocking driving efforts from an age range of 30 to 50 year olds, and have come close to being wiped out by them.. Most P-platers I’ve seen on the roads seem to be doing the right thing!
Ease up on them I say and give them a chance!

I also agree with Avacry!

I agree with Avacry the P-Plate is a media beat up. Is there any evidence of an increased crash rate? not that i can find. So

i like how he says that having a cup holder is essential or you spill your beer when driving.

And you think I’m not aware of that?

I have, however, decided it’s past time to have some fun with the egomania.

whooosh!

Johnboy, Sonic has taken over the reigns and images for media releases for years.

at a guess the “Pic” comment relates to the fact that its a Hargreaves release on Stanhope web page

The bloke on the top of the media release.

The guy who according to most semiotic standards would be the speaker.

I’m with Pandy. What picture?

This whole war against P platers being waged by the Daily Telegraph really pisses me off. Sure there are a few bad eggs in the bunch, but to punish the majority that do the right thing is ridiculous. It’s the media just picking on an easy target to get a headline.

If the Government really wanted to do something productive to stop deaths on the road, they should introduce testing for current license holders every 5-10 years, or when their license expires. I bet if you tested all the people with licenses currently over half would fail their test.

nb – in the tele today they had a piece on crime in NSW. NSW has less police per capita than every state except one (I’m guessing that’s us). And NSW has less than half as many as New York – so we have less than that again.

How will he educate the skills of young drivers.

What picture?
