Hi y’all!

I’m another one (we are so many!) of the You Are Here festival producers/curators this year and I just wanted to say hi. I’m such a fan girl about this festival, I can’t say enough nice things about what we do and the insanely wonderful people I get to work with. This is my first year as a producer, but I’ve worked on the festival as coordinator since we began all the way back in 2011. And honestly, we have never had so many events. Our 2013 program is truly a wild beast, full of an insane range of exciting and ridiculous events. Over 100 events! SO MANY EVENTS.

One of the best spots in which to get your bearings at this year’s festival will be one of our new venues, the Watch House. Right in Garema Place, where the old police station used to be. The Watch House is the spot to get a program, find out what events are on that day and stop and check out some great installations.

I’m super excited about Natalie Azzopardi’s photographic event Ticket to Ride, which is like a cross between a photobooth and a prom photo set. It’s going to be in the shape of an old-school rocket ship and really, is anything cooler than a rocket? No, the answer is no. Ticket to Ride is also your chance to get a souvenir of your You Are Here experience. Even cooler!

Also at the Watch House will be Cathy Petocz and Imogen Keen’s installation theatre piece, The Near and How as well a photography exhibition The Great House Inspection celebrating Canberra’s great house parties. There will also be the chance to dive into Clare Thackway’s beautiful portable planetarium.

So get excited, start asking for leave from work, cancel all your plans, because You Are Here 2013 is going to blow your life apart. Well, maybe just my life, but I’d rather have company.

– Vanessa
