Hawker shops evacuated

By Jazz - 3 February 2010 12

Sketchy details coming in but it seems that something momentus has occurred at the Hawker shopping centre. The Riot HQ bunker has received a report that the entire shopping complex has been roped off with police tape and everyone has been evacuated.

If you know more, add it in the comments.

So it was just a prank by kids? Or was it perhaps a protest by somebody in relation to the proposed carpark closures?

Do you mean that car park where people were struggling to get a park all yesterday and last night? The one that Stanhope thinks isnt busy enough? Is it that one?

Can the bomb disposal robot deal with Stanhope instead of lunchboxes?

That bomb-squad robot was pretty cool. The funny thing was, the bomb-squad guys used remote-control to guide the robot in, whilst they stood behind a building and their truck. Meanwhile, about 50 people were standing around, watching the robot make it’s way to the “bomb” with nothing between it and us – direct line of sight. Just before the robot took a shot at the bomb, the police moved us on…

Good thinking!

Wow, is it just me, if I see the bomb squad hiding from something and using a robot to look at it, I have a tendency to follow their lead and move out of the way on my own accord?? I know self survival does seem silly!!!

Wonder what it ended up being??

Nah, it’s not just you. I guess they were willing to bet it wasn’t a bomb. Luckily for them, it wasn’t.

But it’s a robot! That means it’s cool and shiny and oh-so-attention-monopolising!

How can you expect normal people to resist the lure of the robot? 🙂

But FWIW, if I saw a robot with a shotgun on it, I’d certainly be getting out of range of the shotty.

Kids lunch box, thats all it was.

I would have though ‘good thinking’ would have been to remove yourself, rather than have to wait to be told what to do.

Apparently it was a package taped under one of the post boxes, Thats what i have heard from a shopkeeper.

It sounds like a drug drop gone hugely and hilariously wrong.
