Lim Peh’s Hawker Bowls (formerly known as Lim Peh’s Wan Tan Mee and Lim Peh’s Wonton Noodles) caused a stir when they opened at Verity Lane in April of 2023.
With affordable Singapore Hawker-style dishes, regular monthly specials and quick service, they attracted long queues and hardcore fans. Those fans were heartbroken when Lim Peh’s team announced they’d be leaving Verity Lane just over a year after arriving. But the city’s loss is Woden’s gain as the cult-favourite noodle joint is due to open in the Westfield Woden food court later this month.
Region spoke with one of the team members (who chose not to be named) about what noodle lovers can expect at the new location.
“We spent a lot of time refining the menu at Verity Lane and thinking about what we were doing well and what customers enjoyed,” they told Region, “so people can expect similar Lim Peh’s products like noodles and those authentic Singaporean dishes, but there will be a few more additions as well.
“We’ve got more space to experiment, so we’ll be doing a bit more.”
New options will also include a ‘choose your own adventure’ kind of dining where customers can pick their own ingredients, including the type of noodles, proteins and vegetables for a personalised dish.
The team aims to deliver authentic Singaporean food that is accessible and affordable so you enjoy it every day. Their new location in a food court is entirely appropriate for Lim Peh’s, whose business is modelled on the hawker stalls of Singapore, where food courts are on a whole different level.
“There are not really many places like Singapore hawker centres in Australia, but it’s the kind of place where you don’t need to feel guilty about going a few times a week, and you can still get excellent food.
“It’s all going to be very classic Singaporean, screaming hawker centre vibes!”
It’s an exciting move for Lim Peh’s team, who say that they’ve used their experience at Verity Lane to springboard into new opportunities.
“This is an example of us growing into new things. Verity Lane was a really good test case for use, but there was always a vision of us doing something bigger that stood on its own.”
And this might not be the last we hear of Lim Peh’s Hawker Bowls: “We think there’s a bit of a niche market in hospitality at the moment for accessible, affordable eats that have a lot of passion and are good quality. That’s what we’re looking to bring into the Woden Westfield environment, and hopefully, we can develop a product that can be replicated in other similar settings.”
The site formerly occupied by Lim Peh’s at Verity Lane has been filled by family-run Vietnamese stall Petite Saigon.
Lim Peh’s Hawker Bowls is located in the Level 1 food court of Westfield Woden. They’re planning to open by the end of August. Follow Lim Peh’s Hawker Bowls to be the first to know what they’ve got planned next.
