Leyla is the newest addition to Doma Hotel Group’s luxury hotel and dining scene in Barton. Perched on the rooftop of the Burbury Hotel, this little lounge and bar offer a unique slice of Canberra for visitors and locals alike.

“Take a lift up to the rooftop of the stylish and boutique Burbury Hotel and be greeted by sweeping skyline views of the leafy city, Lake Burley Griffin and beyond, then enjoy a crafted signature or classic cocktail as you watch the sun set behind some of Canberra’s most iconic buildings,” says Director of Hotels Patrick Lonegran.

The space has been designed by award-winning Sydney-based architects Luchetti Krelle. The light and airy colour scheme gives the space a contemporary and fresh feeling with cascading plants and natural light. Choose from high top seating with panoramic views, or settle into one of the intimate nooks that are perfect for a tete-a-tete.

The cocktail list is creative and impressive with drinks like the zingy Zodiac Killer, which features Patròn spiced tequila, rhubarb mistelle and pepperberry. Or, if you’re feeling a little tropical, try the Hitchhiker: dark rum, white cacao, pineapple and passionfruit.

The curated wine list covers all bases with an eclectic mix of international and local wines, including the option to have a standard or large glass of wine.

While sipping your signature cocktail (or extra large wine), dig into the menu of sophisticated bar snacks and small plates. Creamy burrata cheese is served with heirloom beetroot, walnut tapenade and dressed with a 40-year-old sherry vinegar. Or close your eyes and picture yourself in warmer climes while you wrap your mouth around a prawn brioche roll with yuzu and chive mayonnaise.

The gin and tonic cheesecake makes staying a little longer to have dessert a very tempting prospect.

Cocktails at Leyla would bring some serious sophistication to after work drinks or an indulgent staycation, and the sweeping views across some of the prettiest parts of town will surely convince visitors of Canberra’s natural beauty.

Mr Lonegram says “(Leyla’s) panoramic views of the city are the best in Canberra and the perfect backdrop to relax and enjoy a night out with friends” – and who are we to argue?

Leyla is open from Tuesday to Friday from 11 am until late and from 3 pm until late on weekends. The space will be available for hotel guests to use as a lounge during the day with a limited menu on offer.

Find it at 1 Burbury Close, Barton, ACT, 2600, on the rooftop of Burbury Hotel.
