Hurrah for Electro Optic Systems

johnboy 21 December 2006 9

Quietly, without telling anyone, Queanbeyan has been turning itself into quite the hub of hi-tech industry.

The ABC reports that Electro Optic Systems has won the contract to provide the Australian army with weapon stations letting the soldiers shoot without having to stick their heads out of the truck.

Hurrah for Queanbeyan!

I guess that makes you very “culturally weird” as well? Or maybe – you are special, somehow?

They’re a technical company, naturally they will have a strange culture. I have worked for a range of IT organisations, and generally the more technical, the weirder they are culturally. Hard core techos are a strange, and usually highly opinionated, bunch. Hooray!

14 engineers down to 4 in a year. Morale is up the creek due to bad management decisions.

Going away from space contracts to defense (killing) contracts.

This is just a bit of spin to boost their stocks.

Well there you go… Queanbeyan finally has a good point about it!
About time it was recognised for something other than being pram city and for being full of ferrals!

It’s all really cool until you remember what this stuff is for. This one looks the part, all we need now is some mecha to mount it on.

And I can only relate second hand experiences 🙂 They must be doing something right to be landing such contracts and, as you said, good on ’em for it.

Can only speak of my experiences spectra… but its always a good thing when the ADF spends money on products made in Australia.

Sanhon: Really? Because I know several people who used to work there who tell a different story (at least as far as the work environment goes – I can’t speak for the resultant products).

I did some work with EOS several years ago, very smart professional outfit, good on em’ their weapon systems are top notch.
