The ANU brings word that Vice-Chancellor Ian Chubb will be leaving the uni next year after more than a decade leading it up the world rankings.

“Professor Chubb has invigorated ANU, made the most of its exceptional research strengths, and extended those riches to all students, making the educational experience at ANU a unique one,” Professor Evans said.

“He has fulfilled the high expectations of the ANU founders, to make ANU a place to “advance the cause of learning and research … and take its rightful place among the great universities of the world,” and has enriched the relationship with the Commonwealth, making ANU a national institution of which all Australians can be proud.

The release has a long list of his acheivements.

Mr Evil, more or less yeah (although it seems he cops flak from more than just disgruntled arts students). I’m not saying the posters are correct, or incorrect. I wouldn’t have a clue.

Maybe the “et toi, Chubb?” poster just got to him one day…

(As much as I notice the trend of Labor has-beens, maybe by coincidence he appointed someone which has a decent link to the future of ANU, as ANU increases its postgrad Security Studies programs, Gareth Evans is no doubt internationally respected in [cetain aspects] of this field. Coincidence, or a sound decision…?)

I believe Chubb was quite annoyed with a lot of those posters plastered around the uni, especially because he had nothing to do with the changes made to some programs and courses within Arts. Again, another misguided attack by a small group of disgruntled staff (who really should have known better) and students.

Anyway, Evans might be okay – so long as there are no ashtrays close at hand when he gets grumpy! I wonder if he’ll invite Cheryl Kernot to the graduation ceremonies in July?

hopeless lackie @ Wollongong University in the 90’s! basically a mediocre high school principal but a labour hack promoted way beyond capabilities! take away the suit and what have you got? MERDE!

Yeah, and Wollongong has really taken off since he left, hasn’t it!

There have certainly been worse VCs at the ANU – Deane “Terrible” Terrell springs to mind as one of the recent ones. I just wish Chubb would stop appointing Labor has-beens as Chancellor.

Maybe he took a walk through the campus and noticed one of the many hate posters about him?

Are you referring to the ones with all the bullshit about Arts being destroyed?

Hope the guy has a long and happy retirement. It’s never easy doing this type of job and he gave it a good crack.

I have never met the guy, and have absolutely no idea what he’s like, but I think retirement is something to celebrate, so good on him.

Maybe he took a walk through the campus and noticed one of the many hate posters about him?

Retirement sounds much nicer than Resignation! Anyways, I really like Chubby and will miss his antics. There have been some ‘winners’ as VC in the past but I’m sure they will make a good decision on his replacement. They have a year to do it.

YAYYYY!!!!

at the news this berk is to resign. looo-ooong overdue, for mine… (entirely personal reasons – would otherwise still have very different job – though in general his performance of vc duties was pretty commendable, but good bloody riddance!)
