Images of Canberra – Storm Comes over Mt. Coree

OzPhoenix has sent in another picture for our Images of Canberra series with the following note:

This was taken on the 14th March 2009 from the top of Coree as the afternoon storms started to hit Canberra. The shot is facing somewhat North, so to the right of view is Canberra and to the left is the Brindies.

(Got an image of Canberra you want to share with the world – not necessarily a landscape – email it to images@the-riotact.com)

Thanks everyone for you kind comments.

@CoffeeGeek – I didn’t drive up there specifically for photography, I was up there for some amateur radio stuff. But i drive up there from time to time and always take my camera with me as you never know when there will be a good photo. Actually, I have some photos of when I was up there and the place was covered in ice – I might send one of them in.

@Rawhide Kind No 2 – Yes, during that storm there was a lot of lightening, and as a result I had to pull down all my antennas and just hide out in the car and wait for it to pass. I was sitting in my Landcruiser getting buffeted by massive winds and at the back of my mind was wondering if the winds were going to actually move it.

@Kramer – It wasn’t too bad getting back home, I sat it out and then around 7pm left and drove down the crazy road just on dusk. Got to the bottom just as it was dark – so had to re-inflate tyres in the dark. 🙁 But all good fun. 🙂

Awesome pic. Would have been a bugger getting back home (or camping) in the following storm.

You should be up there when there’s lightning all around you and the wind is howling……….An interesting experience but was worth every minute. Wouldn’t do it again though.

Fantastic! Great contrast. I love this style of shot. Amazing detail in the rocks.

Did you drive up there to take the shot, or were you in the right place at the right time (with the right gear)?
