Rioters – Trusting that many of you frequent entertainment venus etc more than I these days. Thusly I seek to pick your collective brains on the relative merits of a venue for my 40th Birthday fesitivies

I’m looking for somewhere reasonably priced ( of course), good food and bar package and good atmosphere.

Preference is for a Belco/Inner North location. any advice or recommendation, greatly appreicated.

Was going through my uncle’s recent 40th birthday photos on fb who lives in canberra. They were all pitched in those inflated sumosuits.
felt like japanese avengers 😛

everyone seemed to be having fun.

The pic had this mob linked as well – http://www.canberrasumosuits.com.au/

Focus here guys! MrMagoo is turning 40 so talk of age limits is a little awkward dont you agree? But as a quick footnote: Maccas dont have a freaking age limit, theyll take anyone, anytime. Im sure they would even do parties 24/7 if there was a dollar in it. And as for getting Ronald to turn up? FORGET IT. Hes so hot right now he wouldnt be seen dead at a 40th.

i had my significant milestone up at the hippo. they didn’t charge, knowing they’d be getting a swag of bodies in ordering drinks, & let us have caterers pop up with platters of food – only caveat was we’d be happy to have the place re-opened to the public by, i think, ten pm from memory, which was of course fine; several of us stayed on til we had to help a couple swagger back to cars (with non-swaggering sober drivers of course!) music was brilliant and you’re in civic if you want to slope off to somewhere for supper after.

I don’t believe there is an age limit for McDonalds Birthdays and I have been to a maccas party where the youngest participant was 24 and the oldest in her 60’s.

How much do they charge if I want Ronald to attend?

usually a clown is free (from memory).

I tried to book a maccas party in sydney for my 18th, maccas said i was too old 🙁

I wonder what the age limit IS for a Maccas birthday party…?

There shouldn’t be one, it’s age discrimination if there is!

Realistically I would assume <12 years..

Well you know what Ferrit my friend, would be good for the nostalgic value if nothing else. Not sure if we’d dominate the place like we once did.

Mate I work at The Australian and would be more than happy to help you out. I know, it’s in Civic but we don’t charge room hire, you can have the entire top floor to yourself, packages start from $15p/h and there’s a dancefloor where you can select whatever style of music that you like. Email me if you’re interested theaussiepub@gmail.com We’ve had a ton of birthdays there ranging from 18th’s to 60th’s so I’m sure I can help you out.

Also, Catchpoles restaurant at the Southern Cross in Jamison put on a pretty good party. I’ve had 2 cousins 21st’s there and its a nice little venue. Good luck!

ACT Rugby Union Club. We do birthday parties every weekend.

It isn’t very glamorous, but there are upstairs rooms at the tradies that they hire out for functions. The functions lady there Monica does a really good job to decorate the room so that it doesn’t feel like a conference (they’ve ever had a wedding there!).

There is an outdoor balcony, you can make as much noise as you like and it is all very reasonably priced.

Like I say, it isn’t fancy, but if you want something cheap and a space you can enjoy with friends, it might be what you’re looking for.

Declaration: I used to work for the tradies group

George Harcourt out at Ginninderra Village will do bar nibblies etc for functions and has a good atmosphere. Less likely to end up with a bunch of young yahoos upsetting all the genteel attendees at your festivities too.

Closest thing to a real pub around.

Had mine at el dorado. Area down the back is kinda out of the way and caters for large party’s.

Depends how many people there will be.
